Shard of the Umbral Maw

A jagged blade of black obsidian that drinks the light around it. Its edge never gleams. Instead, it swallows radiance and leaves reflections distorted and hollow. Along its hild runs a faint, ember-red line.

It is said the Shard was broken from something that once fed on the dark between stars. It will bond only to a wielder with the word of Sorcery, Night, or Fear. A user may bond with the blade by giving it a drop of their own blood it the fait ember line on its hilt.

The Shard of the Umbral Maw does 1d12 damage to all foes but only 1d6 to The Uncreated.

Sheathed in the Living Gloom (Lesser Gift)
The Shard of the Umbral Maw may be dismissed into the shadow of any willing or helpless creature within reach. The blade vanishes into their silhouette as though sinking into deep water.

The sword may be recalled instantly as an On Turn action if placed into the users own shadow, appearing in the wielder’s hand.

While hidden, it cannot be detected by mundane means and resists magical detection of lesser variety.

If the user is in a place without shadow, the blade cannot be summoned until a sufficient shadow is found (One large enough for the blade to fit though horizontally.)

If the host holding the Shard of the Umbral Maw in their shadow dies, the blade seeps out of their shadow at dusk.

The Watching Ember (Lesser Gift)
As an Action, the User may Commit Effort for the day. When they do, a faint red eye opens on the hilt of the Shards surface. The bonded wielder may perceive through the Shard as if physically present at its location.
This sight is colorless and distorted, perceiving warmth, fear, and motion more clearly than fine detail.

The bearer may speak through the blade in a whisper audible only to those standing within ten feet of it.

If desired, the eye may briefly open within the shadow it inhabits. Anyone with the blade in their shadow will feel imediate fear and a sense of being watched when the eye is used this way.

They eye can only remain active for 10 minutes before the gift must be used again.

Breath of the Umbral Deep (Greater Gift)
The Shard exhales the killing cold of the Umbral Dark. As an Action, commit Effort for the day to unleash a 30-foot cone of black frost and devouring night.
Creatures within the area take 1d8 damage every two levels you have (rounded up). In addition any non magical lights are instantly extinguished.

As an additional effect, any victims hit by the Breath of the Umbral Deep must commit and extra effort for the scene every time they use a non-constant gift.

Against creatures of The Uncreated, this damage is treated as magical but does not restrict their gifts.
